Another year is about to end and what a great year it was. We can’t thank you enough for your continued support of WPBeginner. We look back at 2016 and feel grateful for the success and joy our team achieved. WPBeginner 2016 Recap from Syed Balkhi Wow what a year has this been for WPBeginner. Not only did we grow in all aspects from traffic to team size to revenue (coming from our premium plugins ), but we also got a new site design after 4 long years. Our YouTube channel doubled in size. We now have over 500 free video tutorials that have been watched by over 6 million people, and we have almost 47,000 subscribers. I would really appreciate it if you can subscribe to our YouTube channel . My goal is to reach the 100,000 subscriber mark in 2017. Amanda and I welcomed our first baby, Solomon (born in October). Meet Alice Orru, from Sardinia, Italy. Alice Orru was born in Sardinia, an island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. As a child, she dreamt of becoming a flight attendant, traveling the world, and speaking many foreign languages. Unable to meet the height requirements of her chosen profession, Orru ended up choosing a different path in life, following the Italian mantra: “You have to study something that will guarantee a stable and secure job for life.” The unemployment rate in Sardinia is very high, a challenge shared throughout the surrounding islands. She spent all of her time (10 hours a day) and all of her pocket money buying bulk time online at cafes. Many of the WordPress contribution teams have been working hard on the new WordPress editor, and the tools, services, and documentation surrounding it. WordPress 4.9.8 is Released WordPress 4.9.8 was released at the beginning of the month. While this was a maintenance release fixing 46 bugs, it was significant for Core development because it made a point of highlighting Gutenberg — the new WordPress editor that is currently in development (more on that below). Our first global contributor drive is coming up next weekend, January 30-31, 2016, and we want you to be involved! Many of our current contributors first got involved at a Contributor Day at a WordCamp or WordPress Meetup event near them, but not everyone has had that opportunity, so we’re trying to create an online experience that will give new contributors the same kind of live support and group dynamic. We’ll be doing these as weekend challenges rather than one-day events so that WordPress users all over the world can participate without worrying about pesky time zones, but each challenge will be designed to be completed within a few hours, comparable to an in-person Contributor Day.
