WordPress 5.5 “Eckstine”

August 11, 2020 by Leave a Comment

Here it is! Named “Eckstine” in honor of Billy Eckstine, this latest and greatest version of WordPress is available for download or update in your dashboard. Welcome to WordPress 5.5. In WordPress 5.5, your site gets new power in three major areas: speed, search, and security. Speed Posts and pages feel faster, thanks to lazy-loaded images. Images give your story a lot of impact, but they can sometimes make your site seem slow. In WordPress 5.5, images wait to load until they’re just about to scroll into view. The technical term is ‘lazy loading.’ On mobile, lazy loading can also keep browsers from loading files meant for other devices. That can save your readers money on data — and help preserve battery life. Search Say hello to your new sitemap. WordPress sites work well with search engines. Now, by default, WordPress 5.5 includes an XML sitemap that helps search engines discover your most important pages from the very minute you go live. WordPress Summer of Code 2009

March 23, 2009 by Leave a Comment

Dad: Well, Billy, another school year is coming to a close. No more college parties, just another summer here at home. What will you do all day? Billy: Oh, I dunno. I’ll probably work on my blog or something. Dad: You need more direction! That blog is just your generation’s answer to comic books. Billy: On the contrary, Dad, working on my blog utilizes my skills in programming, design, writing, critical thinking, and all sorts of other liberal artsy things that you’re paying those professors to teach me. Dad: If only there were a more practical application for those skills, one that could lead you to fame and fortune! Billy: Where’ve you been living, Dad? My skills are totally in demand in today’s questionable economy. An awesome WordPress developer is worth his/her weight in gold. Lead, even. Dad: What is this WordPress? Billy: Only the greatest open source publishing platform ever created. It’s what runs my blog. I like to fiddle around with the code and … [Read more...] about WordPress Summer of Code 2009

Why You Should NOT Remove Dates from Your WordPress Blog Posts

February 28, 2013 by Leave a Comment

When I started WPBeginner back in 2009, I made a decision to not include dates on any of my blog posts. I did that because I thought I was clever than the rest. My theory was that WPBeginner is NOT a blog. It is a resource like the WordPress codex or Wikipedia neither of which have dates on their articles. Besides my thought was that removing the dates from blog posts would trick the users into thinking that my content is evergreen. Boy was I dead wrong. In the recent months, I’m noticing a trend that more and more internet marketers and self-proclaimed “SEO experts” are advising their users to remove dates from their WordPress blog posts. In this article, I will provide in-depth details on why I chose not to include dates at first and what changed my mind later. I will also cover if/what are the SEO impacts of having dates on your blog posts (post-penguin and panda). Lastly, my goal is that after reading this entire posts you would understand that your problem is not with dates, … [Read more...] about Why You Should NOT Remove Dates from Your WordPress Blog Posts

Interview with Sunil Saxena from InMotion Hosting

July 23, 2014 by Leave a Comment

Last week, we ran a successful giveaway and fundraiser to celebrate WPBeginner’s 5th birthday and help build 2 schools in Guatemala through Pencils of Promise charity. This would not be possible without our Platinum sponsors who donated $5000 towards the campaign. I want to highlight each of them by interviewing them about their business. In today’s first interview, we have Sunil Saxena, co-founder of InMotion Hosting . Sunil and I first met few years ago at a conference. We quickly became friends soon after because we’re passionate about the same thing (good customer service, quality products, and most of all giving back to the community). When he found out about the giveaway we did last year at WPBeginner to help build a school, he reached out eager to know how he can help next year. When I publicly announced the giveaway, Sunil was the first to jump onboard. He donated a total of $10,000 to represent both of his companies InMotion Hosting and Web Hosting Hub. I … [Read more...] about Interview with Sunil Saxena from InMotion Hosting
